Flexible Metal Jumpovers A jumpover -- or jumper -- is the common name for the device that transfers a fluid heating medium from one section of jacketed pipe to another, or from one bolt-on heating jacket to another. Many companies use hard piping for jumpovers. Others prefer stainless tubing jumpovers. Several years ago, CSI developed flexible metal jumpovers that filled a need for convenience and speedy installation. Many processing plants use CSI flexible jumpovers to transfer steam, hot water, and hot oil. In steam and hot water service, NPT connectors on the ends of the hoses are used most frequently. Hoses used in hot oil service -- liquid or vapor -- usually are provided with Class 300 (or PN 40) flanges with one of the flanges being a stub end with lap joint, which assures proper alignment during bolt-up. Compression fittings also are widely used to terminate jumpover hoses. A standard end connector on CSI hoses is a 37-1/2 degree compression fitting JIC union and male NPT adapter one end, and a male NPT with hex head on the other end. Jumpover hoses usually are ordered in nominal sizes of 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, or 1-inch. Other sizes, of course, are available. Shown on some of the metal hoses below is a standard CSI insulating material -- a black, closed-cell silicone sponge material -- with a continuous service temperature of 400 F (204 C). Flexible fiberglass insulating jackets for higher temperature service are available. The overall length of the flexible metal hose assembly depends on the application. Typical lengths are 18, 24,30, 36, or 48 inches (457, 610, 762, 914, and 1219 mm). All metal hose assemblies are custom fabricated, so lengths other than those listed are easily accommodated.
