Compliance & Registration

European & PED Compliance

The Pressure Equipment Directive 97/23/EC (PED) sets out the standards for the design and manufacture of pressure equipment in the European Union. It has been mandatory since May 2002. Per the PED, pressure-containing equipment is classified as piping, pressure vessels, or heat exchangers. Once classified, the equipment must fall within one of five possible categories: SEP (Sound Engineering Practice), Category I, Category II, Category III, or Category IV. The category is determined based upon the volume, pressure, and type of fluid contained. Inspection and documentation requirements increase with higher categories. CSI’s bolt-on products and flexible metal jumpover hoses comply with PED as follows:

  •  ControTrace®: Pressure Vessel Category I and II (depending upon the size)
  •  ControHeat®: Pressure Vessel SEP
  •  Jumpover Hose: Pressure Vessel SEP

Canadian Registration Number

The Canadian Registration Number (CRN) is a number issued by each province/territory of Canada to the design of pressure-containing equipment. The CRN identifies that the design has been accepted and registered for use under that province/territory. All boilers, pressure vessels, piping, tracing, hoses, and industrial instrumentation fall under this requirement. CSI’s ControTrace® and ControHeat® bolt-on products are registered for use in every Canadian province/territory under CRN: 0H2492.2C. CSI’s flexible metal jumpover hoses are registered for use in most provinces/territories under CRN: 0D04982.2134567890. CSI also has CRN registrations for several jacketed hose configurations and can apply for additional registration(s) as needed.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers

CSI is authorized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for fabrication and assembly of pressure piping (PP stamp) and manufacture of pressure vessel (U stamp) in accordance with the applicable rules of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Many of the products CSI manufacturers are built with reference to or in accordance to these guidelines.
