For almost 50 years, Controls Southeast, Incorporated (CSI) has been helping customers solve problems in the chemical, petrochemical, and processing industries. Our business is piping and specialty fabrication. Our expertise is the engineering, design, fabrication, and installation of piping and thermal maintenance systems. Around the world, we are known for the high quality of our work. With each project, we strive to create a great customer experience which is summarized in our mission statement.

CSI employs a team of designers and application engineers with specialties in piping design, heat transfer, and fluid flow. Several registered Professional Engineers are on staff. Our team of ASME-certified welders and fabricators is unmatched, and we maintain an ASME Code shop with the following Code stamps: VR, R, PP, and U.

CSI’s products and services can be grouped into three broad categories:

  • Heated piping systems (including ControTrace®, ControHeat®, and jacketed piping)
  • Process piping (up to 200 spools/week capacity)
  • Specialty fabrication (including pressure vessels and precision manifolds)

Controls Southeast, Incorporated (CSI) was established in 1962 by our then parent company, Carolina Controls, Incorporated. Our original mission was to perform valve repair and fabricate flexible metal hoses.

In 1970, to solve a heating issue in a sensitive high-temperature application, we were asked to weld a heating jacket around a valve body to provide uniform heat to the component. This launched CSI into the realms of heated piping systems and specialty fabrication. Today, we continue to provide weld-on jackets for valves (and other components) worldwide.

In 1973, CSI developed a bolt-on valve jacket (which we named ControHeat®) in response to inherent weaknesses with weld-on jackets. The ControHeat® jacket eliminated the potential for valve damage due to welding, the inability to replace the valve without destroying the jacket, and the risk of cross-contamination between the process and heating media. Since its inception, ControHeat® bolt-on heating jackets for valves, pumps, meters, and other process equipment have become the preferred method of component heating for many applications.

In 1976, we began employing our welding skills to fabricate jacketed piping (also referred to as double-walled pipe) for our heated valve customers. Our jacketed piping business has steadily grown, and today we are the largest provider of jacketed piping on the USA’s East Coast. The design and welding expertise required to produce high-quality jacketed piping also contributed to our growth in specialty fabrication products like pressure vessels and precision manifolds.

In 1980, we introduced bolt-on jacketing for piping (which we named ControTrace®) as a lower-cost alternative to jacketed piping. ControTrace® is used in applications where fully jacketed piping is cost prohibitive (large pipe sizes) and/or not necessary (less stringent thermal requirements). Today, thousands of miles of ControTrace® are in service in plants and refineries on every continent. Due to its cost advantages, ControTrace® has grown to be the product of choice for many heated piping applications, particularly for sulfur, asphalt, coker, polymers and polymer resins, and many, many more.

In 2002, we began large-scale production of process piping (not jacketed) as a complement to our ControTrace® product (whereby we provided both the piping and associated ControTrace® heating system). Since then, our production capacity has grown significantly, enabling process piping to become a major part of our product offering.

In 2013, CSI was acquired by AMETEK–a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of approximately $4.0 billion.  We joined AMETEK as part of its Electronic Instruments Group (EIG).

Today, the focus of our business falls into three broad categories of products and services:

  • Heated piping systems – Bolt on heating systems like ControTrace®, ControHeat®, and TraceBOOST®
  • Process Equipment  – Sulfur sealing and viewing devices for Sulfur Recovery Units (SxSeal®, SxView™, SxSample)
  • Fabrication – Jacketed piping, specialty manifolds and shop fabricated process piping

Our Mission

The foundation of every CSI project is based on four important client desires which we refer to as W4:

Want it when they expect it!
Want it to work when they get it!
Want it at a fair price!

Let’s talk about what you WANT
